Tournament Rules

•             It is the tournament participants responsibility to read all tournament rules and submission guidelines. 

•             This is a catch & release tournament.

•             Tournament begins at 12:00 AM PST on Sept. 14, 2024 and ends at 12:00 PM PST on Sept. 15, 2024. 

•             All fish must be caught and submitted during the tournament time frame.  

•             Only artificial hard or soft plastic bait/lure is allowed. Live or prepared bait is NOT allowed.

•             Artificial bait must be shown in all fish submission photos. See Fish Submission Rules for additional details. ​

•             Fish submissions must be submitted by 12:00 PM PST on Sunday, September 15, 2024. 

•             Participant(s) must check the tournament website, www.socalsfb.com to obtain the code word for the tournament. The code word will also be available through the below social media pages: 

•             Instagram: @Socal_Bonanza & @CaliforniaSurfAnglers.official

•             Facebook: California Surf Anglers (OFFICIAL CSA) 

•             The code word will be available starting at 12:00 AM PST on Saturday, September 14, 2024 and must be written on the participants tournament measuring device and must be visible in all photo submissions.

•             See Fish Submission Rules for additional details. 

•             Participant(s) must obey all State of California fishing regulations of CDFW.

•             Visit www.wildlife.ca.gov/fishing/ocean for more information.

•             If required, participants must obtain and carry a valid 2024 California fishing license.

•             Visit www.wildlife.ca.gov/licensing for more information.

•             It is the participant(s) responsibly to be able to identify the various specie(s).

•             Visit www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Beach-Fishing for more information.

•             Participant(s) are only allowed to surf fish along natural shorelines. This includes open beaches off the shore or natural cliffs and bays with Shoreline/Beach as long as the area is approved by the current CDFW regulations are acceptable.

•             Absolutely NO piers, jetties/breakwalls, docks or bridges.  

•             Eligible species for the tournament:

•             Division #1 - Surf Perch & Croakers (Corbina, Spot Fin Croaker, Yellowfin Croaker, White Croaker)

•             Division #2 - Halibut & Calico Bass

•             Division #3 - White Sea Bass (WSB) and Striped Bass 

•             Participant(s) will be awarded points based on the below point system:​

•             Division #1 - Surf Perch and Croakers - 10 points max can be earned

•             Surf Perch: 11" and above = 1 point; 15" or more = 2 points. Must be a minimum of 11" or more to qualify. 

•             Croaker: 12" and above = 1 point; 18" or more = 3 points. Must be a minimum of 12" to qualify. 

•             Division #2 - Halibut & Calico Bass - 32 points max can be earned

•             Halibut: 18" and above = 7 points; 22" or more = 10 points. Must be a minimum of 18" to qualify.

•             Calico Bass: 14" and above = 6 points. Must be a minimum of 14" to qualify. 

•             Division #3 - White Sea Bass (WSB) and Striped Bass - 64 points max can be earned

•             White Sea Bass (WSB): 18" and above = 15 points; 28" or more = 20 points. Must be a minimum of 18" to qualify. 

•             Striped Bass: 20" and above = 10 points; 25" or more = 12 points. Must be a minimum of 20" to qualify. 

•            Tournament Winners:

•            There will be a total of (4) winners in this years SoCal Surf Fishing Bonanza. 

•             (1) winner for each division and (1) overall tournament champion. 

•             Most points per category wins the category. 

•             Most points overall for all categories combined will be the tournament champion. 

•             In the event of a tie, tournament participant with the largest catch will be declared as the winner.  â€‹

•             Participant(s) will need to report to the below location by 3:00 PM PST on September 15, 2024:

•             Tournament winners will be announced between 3:30– 5:00 PM PST.

•             Tournament winners must be present at the award ceremony when their name is called to win and claim their prize.

•             If the participant is not present when their name is called, the next highest scoring participant will be awarded the prize.

Fish Submission Guidelines

•             Participant(s) must use the tournament measuring device with their Surf Fishing Bonanza ID number and code word clearly visible in all fish submission photos and follow the submission guidelines in order for their fish submission(s) to count.

•              Tournament measuring device will be mailed to all participants prior to the start of the tournament. 

•             Photo submissions must be submitted in the following format:

•             Tournament tape measurer must be clear and visible with Tournament ID # and code word displayed. 

•             Fish has to be directly on top of tape measurer.

•             Fish mouth must be closed with lips on "0".

•             Dorsal fins on the top, tail on the right side, and belly on the bottom.

•             Artificial lure being used must be visible in the photo.

•             Any entries that do not meet this criteria will be an invalid entry, no exceptions

•             To submit your photos, participants must email all photos to submit@socalsfb.com by 12:00 PM PST on Sept. 15, 2024. 

•             It is the participants responsibility to ensure they are in a location where you can successfully submit your photos. 

•             Late submissions will not be accepted.

•             Any inconsistencies, duplicate, or questionable submissions will be grounds for immediate disqualification and forfeiture of any entry fees paid for the tournament. No refunds will be given.
