Tournament Rules

•             This is a catch & release tournament.

•             Tournament begins at 12:00 AM PST on Sept. 16, 2023 and ends at 12:00 PM PST on Sept. 17, 2023. 

•             All fish must be caught and submitted during the tournament time frame.  

•             Any artificial hard or soft plastic bait/lure is allowed. Live or prepared bait is NOT allowed.

•             Fish submissions must be submitted by 12:00 PM PST on Sunday, September 17, 2023. 

•             Participant(s) must check the tournament website, www.socalsfb.com to obtain the code word for the tournament. The code word will also be available through the below social media pages: 

•             Instagram: @Socal_Bonanza & @CaliforniaSurfAnglers.official

•             Facebook: California Surf Anglers (OFFICIAL CSA) 

•             The code word will be available starting at 12:00 AM PST on Saturday, September 16, 2023 and must be written on the participants ID card and must be visible in all photo submissions.

•             See Fish Submission Rules for additional details. 

•             Participant(s) must obey all State of California fishing regulations of CDFW.

•             If required, participants must obtain and carry a valid 2023 California fishing license.

•             Visit www.wildlife.ca.gov/licensing for more information.

•             It is the participant(s) responsibly to be able to identify the various specie(s).

•             Visit www.wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Beach-Fishing for more information.

•             Participant(s) are allowed to fish from the shore, pier, jetty, or harbor as long as the area is approved by the current CDFW regulations.

•             Eligible specie(s) for the tournament:

•             Division #1 - Surf Perch & Croakers (Corbina, Spotfin Croaker, Yellowfin Croaker, White Croaker, )

•             Division #2 - Halibut & Calico Bass

•             Division #3 - White Sea Bass (WSB) and Striped Bass 

•             Participant(s) will be awarded points based on the below point system:​

•             Division #1 - Surf Perch and Croakers

•             Surf Perch: 10 points; +5 additional points if fish measures 15" and above.

•             Croaker: 10 points; +5 additional points if fish measures 20" and above. 

•             Division #2 - Halibut & Calico Bass

•             Halibut: 20 points; +10 additional points if fish measures 22" and above.

•             Calico Bass: 20 points; +10 additional points if fish measures 14" and above.

•             Division #3 - White Sea Bass (WSB) and Striped Bass 

•             White Sea Bass (WSB): 30 points; +10 additional points if fish measures 28" and above.

•             Striped Bass: 30 points; +10 additional points if fish measures 18" and above.

•            Tournament Winners:

•            There will be a total of (4) winners in this years SoCal Surf Fishing Bonanza. 

•             (1) winner for each division and (1) overall tournament champion. 

•             Most points per category wins the category. 

•             Most points overall for all categories combined will be the tournament champion. 

•             Participant(s) will need to report to the below location by 3:00 PM PST on September 17, 2023:

•             Tournament winners will be announced between 3:30– 5:00 PM PST.

•             Tournament winners must be present at the award ceremony when their name is called to win and claim their prize.

•             If the participant is not present when their name is called, the next highest scoring participant will be awarded the prize.

Fish Submission Guidelines

•             Participant(s) must include their Surf Fishing Bonanza ID Number and code word must be clear and visible in all fish submission photos.

•             Participant(s) are responsible for obtaining their own measuring device whether it is from a previous tournament, derby, or a tape measurer. 

•             Entries must be submitted in the following format:

•             Tape measurer must be clear and visible.

•             Fish has to be directly on top of your tape measurer.

•             Mouth must be closed with lips on "0".

•             Dorsal fins on the top, tail on the right side, and belly on the bottom.

•             Photo of the fish must include your ID card, clear and visible. 

•             Any entries that do not meet this criteria will be an invalid entry, no exceptions. 

•             To submit your photos, participants must email all photos to submit@socalsfb.com by 12:00 PM PST on Sept. 17, 2023. 

•             No late submissions will be accepted.

•             It is the participants responsibility to ensure you are in a location where you can successfully submit your photos.
